12
It is essential a player realises that
all stiff totals between 12 and 16 are going to be losing
hands. In order to minimise losses, a player must always
keep to the basic strategy and hope for the best. If
a player stands, their only hope of winning is if the
dealer goes bust. Surprisingly, the mathematics indicate,
that a player will win more often by standing than by
hitting in these double stiff situations.
The exception to this rule is when the player has a
12, and the dealer has either a 2 or a 3. In this situation
only one third of all possible draws can hurt a player
(the 10-value cards). In addition, the dealer will draw
a pat-hand two thirds of the time.
