How To Play Blackjack

Betting

Different tables have varying minimum and maximum wagers that will usually be indicated by a note at each table. Online casinos usually indicate the possible minimum, maximum and intermediate bets simply by offering different possible wager amounts when you click the increase or decrease bet size button.

The size of the bet placed must conform to the table’s permitted amounts. The traditional currency of gambling is chips although some real world casino tables may allow straight cash wagers (though payouts will still be in chips). Chips are made of either plastic metal or clay and usually have the casinos logo engraved into them. Chips are given in exchange for cash and are available in various denominations, for instance red, green and black chips could be sold for £5, £25, and £100 respectively.

The player must decide on they amount they are willing to wager and place this amount in their betting area (more commonly known as the “spot” or “box”) before any cards are dealt. Online casinos have a current bet value displayed on the screen and take this value as the wagered bet when the deal button is pressed.

If wagering an amount that is made up of different denominations of chips they must be neatly stacked in the betting area with the higher values at the bottom of the pile and the lower values at the top. Chips positioned to the side of the betting area are seen as a request from the player to have their chips “coloured up” or “coloured down” (exchanged for a higher or lower value). A player may also place chips between the betting area and the dealer to indicate the placement of a separate bet made in light of a tip.

Again, this information is irrelevant to the world of the online casino, where a player simply deposits funds into his playing account using a credit card or some other payment method. After this point, players can set their bet simply by clicking a button, with no need to involve chips at all, making the whole game process much, much faster.
