How To Play Blackjack

Doubling

If after checking their first two cards, a player decides that he stands a good chance of beating the dealer they may double the wager of the hand by sliding an equal amount of chips behind the original bet. This is often known doubling down. When a player chooses this they then receive one final card and one card only. The dealer will acknowledge this by placing the final card down sideways.

Again, the rules on doubling vary from game to game. Some versions such as Atlantic City, Vegas Strip and Vegas Downtown normally allow you to double down on any pair, while others such as European and Traditional blackjack permit doubling only on totals of 9, 10 or 11.
