If all the players to the dealers left
are either bust or have chosen to stand then the dealer
must expose their hole card, or deal a second card to
himself in the case of a non-hole game. Additional cards
are then drawn until they go bust or get a pat hand.
Some casinos rule that if a dealer has a soft 17 it
cannot be considered a pat hand and the dealer must
reach the total, (soft hands consist of at least one
11-valued Ace). Other casinos insist that the dealer
must stand when they have a total of 17 or more. This
rule would usually be printed clearly on the table.
Once a “pat hand” is reached by the dealer,
they must stop drawing cards. Then the bets are paid
out according to the following rules:
- If the player wins by having a higher total than
the dealer, the dealer must pay them an amount equal
to that in the playing area.
- If the player is dealt a Blackjack they will receive
their original wager plus half that amount again.
- If the players total is lower than the dealers
the player loses all the chips in their box.
- If a dealer goes bust, then each remaining player
wins regardless of their totals and the dealer must
pay them an amount equal to that in the playing area.
