Running count wagering
This memorised hi-low number later became
known as the running count. Many novice counters achieve
consistent success by merely ranging their bets in direct
proportion to the running count. If it is high they
bet accordingly and vice versa for when it is low. For
the casual Blackjack player, it may prove a satisfactory
and winning strategy in itself because it is such an
easy and effective system to apply.
In order to give themselves a safety margin, it is
recommended that a player begins their running count
at a deficit of –3. If the count happens to soar
early in the game, this protective barrier will help
to keep a player from excessive over-betting.
If the running count remains below +2, a player would
be wise to bet the minimum. As a rule, the player should
increase their betting range by 1 unit for every unit
of increase in the positive count i.e., if 1 unit =
£1, then the bet should be increased by £1
for every increase in the positive count.
NB- Never should a player increase their betting range
by more than 10 units, or 2% of their total bankroll.
